Dublin, GA – November 3, 2008 – The Dublin-Laurens County Development Authority and Seven (7) Local Laurens County Banks have agreed in principle to create a bank consortium for projects covering the Laurens County area. The seven local banks have agreed to review economic development projects received through the Dublin-Laurens County Development Authority that are strong projects where financing could aid in their location in Laurens County.

HGTC hosts manufacturing summer camp

DUBLIN—The Heart of Georgia Technical College was one of 26 organizations to receive a Fabricators & Manufacturers Association (FMA) Foundation grant for 2008. The $5,000 grant funded a week-long day camp for 14 to 16 year old Wilkinson County High School students.

Heart of Georgia Technical College, the Wilkinson County Board of Education, and the Stay in School Program partnered to write the grant. The purpose of the FMA Foundation grant was to support programs with positive hands-on experience, so young people will consider manufacturing as a future career option.

Four New VA Clinics to Open in Georgia

The Department of Veteran Affairs plans to open four outpatients clinics in Newnan, Brunswick, Milledgeville and Hinesville.

U.S. Senators (R) Saxby Chambliss, and (R) Johnny Isakson, commented on the step, in a statement released by their offices:

“Our veterans deserve access to the very best medical care and services,” said Chambliss, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. “The announcement of these new clinics is great news for veterans in our state who have served our nation with honor.”

East Dublin's Buckeye Park Landing receives 'Go Fish Georgia' Funding

The State of Georgia wants everyone to go fishing - and is willing to give $115,000 to Laurens County to promote it.
Last week, Governor Sonny Perdue announced East Dublin's Buckeye Park Landing on the Oconee River was among eight locations in the state to receive funding from the 'Go Fish Georgia" program. That brings to total 18 ramps statewide to be funded by the program.

Transitional Center approved for Laurens County

A complex originally constructed several years ago to house probationers will open as a transitional center to help inmates released from prison ease back into society.
The center will open thanks to $2.6 million provided by the 2008 Legislature, according to state Rep. DuBose Porter. Opening of the center will bring 34 jobs, including correctional officers, administrative and personnel positions. The center will carry a $1 million annual budget, including salaries and upkeep of facilities.
