Business Incentives
The City of Dublin / County of Laurens Economic Development Authority is the primary conduit for a number of statutory and negotiable business incentives, tax abatements, and tax credits, whether utilizing local, regional, State, or any combination of opportunities offered to qualified industrial prospects.
For smaller organizations, the County brings tremendous opportunity specifically as a regional center for economic development, beyond that of the local EDA:
- Georgia Tech’s Economic Development Institute (EDI) has maintained an office in Dublin since the early 1970’s. It has been the recipient of the Georgia Economic Development Association Award for “Service to Existing Industry.” Serving 13 counties, EDI creates lasting partnerships with business and industry through on-site evaluations, seminars and workshops. As an example, Dublin’s SP Newsprint needed help with scaling up and implementing a new de-inking process. Regional office engineers brought in a pulp-and-paper expert from Georgia Tech who successfully assisted the firm. Annual cost savings have been in excess of $400,000.
- The OneGeorgia Authority created in 2000 is a state agency based in Dublin. The purpose of the Authority is to create jobs for rural Georgia with more than $60 million annually being received from the tobacco industry in litigation. It was quite an honor for Dublin to be selected as the state headquarters for this agency.
